About This OpportunityThe Media Officer will join our central Communication team to assist with the planning of proactive media, social media, communication and public relations activities to positively position UQ. They will implement such activities, under supervision where necessary, including liaising with subject matter experts, internal and external stakeholders and others on the development of media strategies and communication plans. The Media Officer will research and produce original multi-media materials to tell the stories of our researchers, staff and students. They will also report on the success of media pitching and communication campaigns, using analytic tools. A contact point for journalists, the Media Officer will also help respond to day-to-day enquiries and assist with the development of reactive media statements where required.This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.Our Ideal CandidateEssential A degree in journalism/communications or a related area plus 3-4 years relevant experience in media or public relations, or an equivalent combination of education/experienceDemonstrated ability to manage media enquiries, develop and execute media plans and to successfully pitch story ideas proactivelyProject management skills and an understanding of communication planning to assist with complex programs involving multiple stakeholdersThe ability to prioritise competing work demands to manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines while maintaining close attention to detailExcellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to write with clarity, accuracy and precision for a ‘lay’ audienceExperience using social and digital media to reach and engage target audiencesDemonstrated commitment to client serviceAbility to work co-operatively and collaboratively. Desirable Experience in the higher education sector or a similar complex organisationExperience in producing multimedia material including basic video editing skills.
