The legal services undertaken by the branch include: Establishment of Royal Commissions (exclusive service)Management of notices to produce including document reviewProviding advice on the laws applying to Royal Commissions, public law matters and other issues as they ariseWitness preparationHearing preparationBriefing and instructing counselState submissionsStrategic responsesProject management and reportingRoyal Commissions and inquiries general advisory About the roleWe have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and dedicated Senior Legal Assistant to join our RCI Branch and contribute to matters of high profile public interest. This role will provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to a team of solicitors. Day to day responsibilities would include: Preparing correspondence and relevant documents – drafting and typing (dictaphone)Liaising with clients, witnesses and barristersAmending & formatting documentsFile management – maintaining orderly, up to date legal files in electronic and hard copy formatDiary and email management – monitoring emails, calendars and recording deadlinesTelephone assistance – both incoming and screeningCoordinating monthly billing, including client specific requirementsAssisting with monthly reportingGeneral administration – photocopying, couriers and relieving receptionMentoring other Legal AssistantsAssisting the Branch Team Leader as required Skills and experience Significant experience providing legal support and mentoring team membersConfident in providing high quality and responsiveness legal administrative assistance to more than one solicitorStrong understanding of court systems and procedures, including knowledge of legal terminology and an ability to conduct research using online databases and systemsSelf-starter who takes initiative and has the ability to operate autonomouslyExcellent attention to detail with a commitment to service excellence BenefitsIn exchange for your hard work, you will receive; competitive remuneration, training and development opportunities and up to 17.5% annual leave loading.
