About the OpportunityThis role will be part of a branch that provides the transport portfolio with a broad suite of analysis and modelling services (including data science). As an Economist you'll provide business partnering services to ensure that there is a clear point of accountability/access and the client needs are understood/ prioritised.It is a centre for excellence for transport data, modelling, economic evaluation and analytics, providing the evidence base to assess current and future network performance, and evaluate strategic interventions.The Economist will provide sound project appraisal advice and business partnering services relating to transport project and policy demand forecasting and economic analysis. The ideal candidate will have: Demonstrated understanding of transport economics and ability to assess the feasibility of potential investments and policiesStrong conceptual and analytical skills and the ability to apply these skills to practical problems in economic appraisal, ability to use spreadsheet and statistical analysis tools to prepare analysesPlanning and organising skills: plans out activities, sets priorities, monitors progress and manages time effectivelyExcellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships and communicate in a clear and concise mannerExcellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare material suited for the audience; ability to present complex technical information in a way that a general audience can understandAbility to pro-actively contribute to a high-functioning and high-performing teamMust have a Bachelor Degree in Economics or equivalent study in economics or a related fieldA higher degree in Economics, Planning, Statistics or Geography would be well regarded Culture and BenefitsThe Department of Transport is committed to building a culture of developing our people to achieve great outcomes for the Victorian transport network.
