Our Opportunity The Attorney-General's Department (AGD) is a legal, social and economic policy department at the heart of government; driving Australia’s industrial relations, legal policy, justice and public sector integrity agenda. We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to work innovatively and collaboratively to deliver financial and business outcomes in support of the strategic objectives of the department. The CFO will work directly with the senior executive to lead the delivery of a broad range of critical financial functions and to support the department’s strategic direction in coming years. As the CFO and a member of the Senior Management Committee, you will report to the Secretary and Executive Board, taking responsibility for your division through the smooth delivery of key policy and program outcomes, and leadership and management functions within the Corporate Services Division, Enabling Services Group and department. The Corporate Services Division is made up of three branches, each performing different and complex work, with the CFO driving one cohesive and inclusive division: AGS Finance Business Operations Financial Services You will take responsibility for the division in the effective and timely development and delivery of key policies, tools and guidance provided to the department and portfolio agencies. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (SES Band 2), the CFO role also holds a position on many departmental, portfolio and other governing boards, including regular meetings with the Secretary and other senior executive members. Who are we looking for? To be successful in this role, you will need to be a highly motivated leader and manager with organisational agility, high level emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills, and a proven ability to build trusted relationships across all levels. You will have deep knowledge and experience in Commonwealth financial management and services, accountabilities and obligations, and with best practice corporate management and governance. This role requires capability across strategy development, execution and operational delivery. The CFO is responsible for all financial management functions including management and financial accounting; external and internal budgeting; taxation; asset management; financial statement and meeting reporting requirements. The CFO will also work closely with other CFOs within the AGD portfolio. If you have the following attributes, we want to hear from you: Provide effective leadership and management of the Corporate Services Division, including delivery of associated activities, services and projects. Lead and manage high level projects including the development of budget submissions and strategic plans. Provide strategic input into organisational strategy and culture as part of the senior management group. Provide expert advice on financial management matters. Ensure the delivery of a range of financial, corporate and business services including planning, assurance and compliance requirements; audit, fraud, risk and operational planning; and a range of business services to support departmental operations. Proactively engage and collaborate with senior executive and the wider department to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Prepare quality papers, briefs, presentations and correspondence. Manage facilities services arrangements including the management of procurement and contracts, property/facilities and travel coordination. Lead by example and strongly demonstrate the APS Code of Conduct, values, leadership capabilities and the AGD Performance Expectations and manage the work performance and development of team members.
