Job Description

Executive Level 1, Ongoing $98,209 - $110,623 + 15.4% super Bungendore The Bureau of Meteorology is seeking a dedicated, highly talented professional to fill the role of the Leave Relief Meteorologist. A successful candidate would relish the challenge of working in a customer focussed environment. The National Security Program sits within the Bureau's Business Solutions Group and is the primary provider of environmental intelligence to the national security agencies and specifically the Department of Defence and the ADF. Services provided by this Program enhance Australia's national security agenda through the provision of accurate, timely and relevant environmental intelligence, including space weather, meteorological, oceanographic services and climate data. Services to Defence and the ADF specifically include the provision of forecasts, real-time observations, climatological data and oceanographic data and services, meteorological training, professional advice to assist decision-making and planning, and direct support to operations and activities. The leave relief position is part project work and part operational shift work. The project work provides support to the MIST by responding to Defence requests and through supporting the MDO-HQJOC upon request. The role may develop to support other National Security agencies such as Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and Home Affairs. The operational leave relief shift work role provides strategic weather watch for Australia and other areas of ADF operations worldwide and provides guidance to senior ADF personnel on meteorological, and BoM specialised products and services for security and intelligence briefings. The position also ensures the efficient production of meteorological forecasts in support of Defence operations and exercises.
