Solicitor - Legal Officer Grade IV - Civil Law - Tamworth - Temporary until July 2022-000089C2 ABOUT LEGAL AID NSW Legal Aid NSW is the largest legal aid agency in Australia, comprising of a Central Sydney office and 25 regional offices in metropolitan and regional centres across NSW and a number of specialist services and advice clinics. Working at Legal Aid NSW provides the opportunity to support people with disabilities, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, women and children, Indigenous people and people with mental illness who may experience difficulties when enforcing and defending their rights. ABOUT THE ROLE We are looking for a Grade IV Solicitor in the Civil Law Division whose duties will include: • Provide a high quality advice, minor assistance and casework services in areas such as consumer, mental health, human rights, employment, housing, immigration, social security, and/or coronial inquests, or other areas of civil law. • Conduct and supervise other legal officers to ensure an efficient and effective legal practice in accordance with the standards required by Legal Aid NSW. • Contribute to the leadership of the Civil Law Division. • Assist people to overcome disadvantaged circumstances • Comply with the Legal Aid Commission Act, policies and practice management standards and undertake all related administrative and case management activities. ABOUT YOU We are looking for an experienced solicitor with relevant experience to the work of the Civil Law Division, which specialises in providing a range of legal services to disadvantaged communities in areas of law that impact on their everyday lives. The successful applicant will lead a team to deliver high quality advice, minor assistance and casework services in areas such as consumer, discrimination, human rights, employment, housing, social security, mental health, or other areas of civil law. The successful applicant will work closely with Aboriginal communities and strategic stakeholders to improve the outcome for Legal Aid’s clients. ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS • Admission or eligibility for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW • Ability to provide a valid Practising Certificate upon commencement • Willingness to undertake a Criminal Record Check and/or working with Children Check • Hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Resident or hold a valid working visa • Hold a current NSW Driver's Licence
