Peerpoint is Allen & Overy’s global platform for self-directed consultant lawyers who want to access the best work, clients, resources and bespoke support, whilst working as self-employed lawyers within Allen & Overy and in-house with clients. To find out more, please visit
 
We are currently recruiting restructuring and insolvency lawyers, with the areas of expertise listed below. We have opportunities for lawyers based in Sydney and Melbourne. If you are a highly skilled and self-driven lawyer with cross-border experience in some or all of the following, we are keen to hear from you.
  • Pre-packaged sales;
  • Debt for equity swaps;
  • Contingency planning;
  • Debt restructuring and rescheduling;
  • Distressed acquisitions and sales;
  • Credit bidding;
  • Formal insolvency proceedings;
  • Out-of-court refinancings; and
  • Distressed debt trading
  • Key requirements
  • A right to work and reside in Australia
  • A practising certificate (or equivalent) which entitles you to practise as a lawyer in Australia
  • A minimum of four years' post-qualification experience at a top tier law firm in your area of expertise
  • In-house legal experience at leading financial services institutions/corporates preferred (directly or as a secondee)
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience in restructuring and insolvency transactions
  • Strong experience in a common law jurisdiction highly regarded
  • Excellent academic credentials
  • Self-starter with a commitment to building a career as a consultant and a drive to achieve at a high level whilst working as a consultant

  • Adept at leading or working within complex multi-functional, multi-national project environments
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface at all levels, building strong relationships internally and externally
  • Client service-focused, with exemplary client service ethic and commitment
  • Strong commercial/business acumen
  • Resilient, adaptable, autonomous and highly credible
  • Advanced organisational skills and diplomacy

    The diversity of high-level work open to consultants is greater than in permanent employment.
     
    Client assignments can be working with a team facing high busy-ness, or stepping in to support a particular project. Assignments can range from two to twelve months in duration.
     
    You will also have the opportunity to work within Allen & Overy on an ad-hoc basis, supporting teams when needed or joining them for fixed periods to work on a matter.
