We are the major teaching hospital for the Deakin Medical School and have an active and growing research base.About the facility Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Services (MHDAS) provides integrated and recovery orientated mental health, drugs and alcohol assessment, treatment and community support to people of all ages within the Barwon region experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, mental health and / or drug and alcohol issues, and their families.The Mental Health (MH) Hospital in the Home (HITH) service is a 24hour a day, 7 day a week team working across three shifts. The team is a tertiary-level multidisciplinary mental health drug and alcohol team. Its aim is to provide timely and effective, intensive treatment and support for individuals aged 16 years and older with high acuity mental health and / or AOD needs, in their home environment.About the role The Senior Occupational Therapist will work business hours Mon – Fri, supporting the 24 hour service to provide evidence-based interventions for consumers and their families/carers in the acute phase of their mental illness and / or alcohol and other drug (AOD) use.This includes: Providing specialist occupational therapy assessments and therapeutic interventions to consumers and their families/carers in line with the consumers’ individual care, goals and treatment planEngaging clinical, lived experience, support services and natural support networks collaboratively in the development and implementation of recovery plans.Providing clinical leadership and contributing to service quality improvement within the Acute Intervention Service and across MHDASIncrease capacity within MHDAS to utilise and deliver specialist assessment and therapeutic interventions Parameters of this position would include some of the following: consultative role, lecturing in their clinical speciality, teaching under graduates and/or post graduate students and providing education to staff from other disciplines.About the cultureThis is a new service within the established Mental Health Acute Intervention Services team.
