We partner with government and private capital to deliver programs and services that include community recreation, adventure and stadium sports, camping, learn to swim, children's programs, early learning, youth services, retirement living, disability services and social enterprises. About the Centre The Preston Fitness Centre is a small gym located within Melbourne Polytechnic - Preston Campus. As well as a wide variety of cardio equipment, pin-loaded machines and free weights, the centre provides Group Fitness classes and Personal Training to students, staff and the local community. Key Elements of the Role Provide exceptional customer service at all times Work as a team member to provide the very best health and fitness advice, including through consultation, by creating a friendly environment. Conducting Health Consultations, Program Starts, Follow-Ups and Re-assessments. Supervision of gym, giving technical advice, support and encouragement to customers. Ensure all equipment and the facility itself is kept to agreed standards of quality, safety maintenance and preparation. Support of membership retention and marketing strategies Complete, monitor and evaluate checklists. Ensure customers conform to gym etiquette guidelines. Attend staff meeting and staff training as required. Able to deliver Group Fitness classes as required. Able to deliver Personal Training sessions. Perform other duties as required. Build a rapport with customers. Ensure ongoing maintenance of customer records. Make recommendations to management regarding improvements to gym operations Selection Criteria Capabilities and Behaviours Demonstrates motivation and commitment to perform to their best Accepts personal accountability for workplace actions and consequences to better influence Demonstrates YMCA Victoria values, Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility. Knowledge of organisational vision and belief. Knowledge and Experience Interpersonal skills and an ability to deal with a diverse range of customers in age, culture, fitness history and other backgrounds. Previous experience in group fitness instruction is desirable Personal Attributes Ability to work autonomously & within a team. Shows professionalism and respect to all staff and customers Punctual in both attendances on shift and at staff meetings or training Demonstrate flexibility to a variety of shift times in an effort to share the workload Ensures a clean neat presentation in correctly presented uniform Qualifications Mandatory Pre-Requisite Qualifications Certificate III & IV in Fitness Current Registration with Fitness Australia Minimum 2 years' experience HLTFAB Apply First Aid or equivalent HLTCPRA Perform CPR or equivalent Other Required Qualifications 20 Continuing Education Credits (CECs) every two years, in order to maintain your registration with Fitness Australia Emphasis on courses relative to the groups that you predominantly work with (e.g. pregnancy, older adults) YMCA, including Boards of Directors, is committed to the safety and wellbeing of children and young people in accordance with our Safeguarding Children and Young People framework. YMCA requires that all applicants undergo satisfactory screening prior to commencement, including but not limited to: a national criminal history check; an international criminal history check where applicants have worked overseas; holding or obtaining a Working with Children Clearance/ equivalent in accordance with state/ territory laws; ACF Safeguarding Children and Young People Certificate (completion online prior to commencement) Two reference checks. Any successfully appointed applicant will be required to adhere to the Safeguarding Children and Young People framework, which includes a thorough safeguarding children and young people induction and committing to upholding the safety and wellbeing of children and young people throughout their engagement with YMCA.
