Job Description

The Cleveland Youth Detention Medical Centre is seeking Clinical Nurses with varied experience to fill future temporary full-time and/or part-time vacancies.

Cleveland Youth Detention Centre (CYDC), located in Townsville, accommodates young people aged up to 18 years, who are remanded or sentenced to youth detention. Health services within the CYDC work in partnership with other government and healthcare providers, to deliver a range of preventative, primary and emergency care services to young people within the detention centre environment.

About your opportunity

The purpose of the Clinical Nurse is to deliver timely holistic client care according to scope of practice, within a primary health care model in a youth detention health setting as prescribed by policy, clinical standards, clinical guidelines and protocols, workplace instructions and the Youth Justice Act 1992. Responsibilities include medication administration, assessment and treatment of minor injuries and illnesses, vaccinations, phlebotomy, hearing and vision screening, suicide and self-harm assessments, health education, chronic disease case management and health education, ensuring safe and equitable care to young people.

Role requirements:

Bachelor of Nursing (or equivalent) + current AHPRA registration (mandatory).
Highly desirable: Experience in youth nursing and Advance Practice Immunisation qualification.
