Job Description

Civil Senior Project Engineer

The role will be part of the site team that will deliver the project primarily consisting of bulk earthworks and plant construction contracts. Due to the dominant nature of earthworks scope, a civil clerk of works.


Main Responsibilities

  • Maintains HSE focus within the team to ensure HSE requirements included in design and procurement.
  • Proactively resolve performance, scope and schedule issues with the Client as they arise. Identify, document, communicate and meet the client’s requirements Ensure compliance with requirements of the contract Contribute to the development of the overall project schedule.
  • Coordinate work in accordance with the approved schedule Ensure accurate, timely and effective reporting to the Project Manager.
  • Ensure that contractors are working in the required work areas, locations and elevations and that work sequence and interfaces with other contractors are both co-ordinated and planned to provide continuous working to meet contract schedules.
  • Agree method statements and JHA’s. Ensure that work is carried out in accordance with the agreed method statements.
  • Ensure that a risk assessment has been undertaken and agreed prior to commencement of any new type of work activity.
  • Ensure contractors maintain safe work practices and use appropriate PPE.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained in safe working order with valid calibration and that safe access and egress for all personnel are maintained at all times.
  • Using the Inspection Report proforma, provide accurate and unbiased reports on contractors’ works. Liaise with Project Expeditors, Engineers, Contracts Administrators and Document Control to ensure project documentation is submitted on time.
  • Verify the Contractor is in possession of relevant contract documents, appendices, specifications, manufacturing schedules, ITP’s and drawings and that they show the correct revisions and approval status. Routinely study, check and review all contractor scope as detailed in drawings, project plans specifications and instructions, ensuring contractors proper interpretation and compliance with the listed AFC drawings and specifications.
  • Ensure the Contractor carries out and documents receival inspections of incoming goods to verify compliance with requirements. Verify the personnel conducting inspection and testing activities are properly qualified and in accordance with the applicable procedures/standards.
  • Monitor/witness the quality activities of the Supplier / Contractor and document completed quality surveillance of the Contractor’s work including Hold points and Hold points in accordance with the requirements of the Quality Plan, approved ITPs Procedures and Quality Control Manager.
  • Ensure Contractor sign-off is by appropriately qualified personnel. Ensure that all quality control checks and tests are instigated, with records maintained and available as required for earthworks and concrete works and areas are released in accordance with ITP.
  • Verify the ITP reflects the current status of works.
  • Ensure the Contractor is progressively compiling Manufacturer’s Data Reports in accordance with Contract requirements. Ensure proper change control by ensuring Field Instructions are issued for all changes, Ensure the contractors technical query register is maintained and responses are appropriate and practical and closed out timely.
  • Liaise with Project Engineers and Expeditors to ensure timely TQ close-out.
  • Ensure any permanent changes are recorded as red-line as-built mark-ups on the relevant IFC Drawings. Attend Contractor progress meetings as required. Identify non-conforming conditions and notify the Construction Manager of situations that justify stopping work Ensure contractors dimensional control methods for checking that the works are properly set out.
  • Supervise specialist surveying contractors where necessary.
  • Monitor Contractor’s conformance and site quality data and provide statistics as required.
  • Ensure that contractors comply with all aspects of the Worksite HSE Plan and policy; site regulations, permit to work and Client requirements.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of construction contractors.
  • Maintain daily supervisory surveillance checks and records ensuring that contractor’s management and supervision are providing safe working conditions and permitting procedures, all required competent personnel, protective equipment, adequate supervision and manpower, with reliable, well maintained equipment to execute the contracted works as per contract schedule and targets.
  • Requirements
  • Must have 8 to 10 years’ experience.
  • Must have an appropriate engineering degree.
