Job Description

ASX listed construction/ engineering companyOpportunities for advancement, path to general counselAutonomous role, flexible working + variety of workOur client is an ASX listed construction and engineering business operating across Australia and overseas. A new opportunity has arisen for an in-house Commercial Lawyer to join the team in Sydney. Reporting to the General Manager you will provide legal/commercial advice and support by partnering with business unit managers and encouraging smarter, more informed decisions that minimise commercial risk and maximise financial returns. You will also play a key role in the ongoing development and management of the organisation’s governance around contracting and contracts. Key responsibilities will include: Review, interpret, identify risks and devise strategies to mitigate risks in respect of existing and proposed contracts Negotiate contracts with customers and suppliers in a manner which protects the company and to fairly allocate risk Front line involvement in the development and negotiation of various commercial vehicles such as Joint Ventures and Alliances Managing contractual disputes Involvement with any M&A activity Oversight and management of company precedent contractual/commercial documents Solid understanding of company governance requirements, especially around contracting and contracts (there is a separate company secretary) Involved with the ongoing legal aspects of any property transactions Work closely with other commercial and contracts managers across the country Candidate: The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5-10 years PAE with excellent knowledge of construction legislation and regulations. You will be an excellent communicator with strong negotiation skills and the ability to manage a diverse range of stakeholders.
