About the companyOne of APAC's largest manufactures in rigorous materialsAbout the RoleThe Data Scientist works closely with business stakeholders and data stewards, project managers and IT teams to turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make sound organisation decisions. They need to be creative thinkers and propose innovative ways to look at problems by using data mining approaches on the set of information available. They will need to validate their findings using an experimental and iterative approach.The role will need a combination of business focus, strong analytical and problem-solving skills and programming knowledge to be able to quickly cycle hypothesis through the discovery phase of the project.Excellent written and communications skills to report back the findings in a clear, structured manner are requiredRequired SkillsPost graduate qualification in computer science, applied mathematics, operations research, statistics, machine learning, or other data centric disciplines (e.g. astrophysics, biomedical, engineering)Deep experience with analytical methods, e.g. statistical modelling, machine learning and deep learning, mathematical optimisations (LP, MIP, genetic algorithms), agent-based and discrete-event simulationsExperience with broad set of analytics tools, e.g. data manipulation (SQL, R, Python, Spark, Hadoop/Hive), machine learning (Python, R)and data visualisation (Tableau, PowerBI)Additional experience with mathematical optimisation tools (e.g. Matlab, Python) or with simulation tools (e.g. Arena, AnyLogic) is a plusRelevant experience delivering business improvement projects through advanced analytics solutions in a commercial setting or relevant consulting experienceExperience in heavy industry, manufacturing or other science-based industriesHands-on experience in analytics delivery, through the lifecycle of an analytics engagementAbility to explain sophisticated data science concepts in an understandable manner and distil complex analysis into simple, clear visualisationsHighly developed written and verbal communication skills in addition to strong listening capabilityProven experience utilising data science across a variety of domain and problem spacesDemonstrated ability to connect data science to drive business outcomesExperience engaging a wide range of internal stakeholders (experts, engineers, technologists and senior stakeholders) to demonstrate the value of data and its ability to evolve operational efficiencies and digital transformationAbility to work collaboratively and within a teamInterested?
