About the Job We are seeking a passionate leader to drive a sustainable program of transformative employability and career programs and Work Integrated Learning (WIL) initiatives at scale to equip Swinburne students to be successful in their careers and futures. As the Director, you will oversee a unit that supports students and teaching staff to achieve Swinburne’s Future Ready Learners (FRL) Strategy – to lead in employability and business creation, and deliver an outstanding and personalised student learning and engagement experience. Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Academic Innovation and Change (AIC), this role sits with the Employability unit, which plays an integral role in the delivery of Swinburne’s employability agenda and authentic industry-engaged learning & teaching across all our teaching programs. You will help drive the development of WIL at scale, which provide opportunities for significant social impact, and the development and close engagement with industry and external partners. The role is pivotal in ensuring the effective provision of a high-quality student focused careers service that best prepares graduates for the globally competitive recruitment market. The Director will engage externally with appropriate government departments, business and industry, community and professional associations, and liaise with internal stakeholders, including the broader PVC (AIC) portfolio, the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and the Schools. About Employability Unit The newly established Employability unit is a team of 40 staff supporting WIL and careers at Swinbure, focussing on the four key areas of industry engagement, career development, WIL academic programs, and operations. About you To be successful in the role, you will have: • A PhD or equivalent qualification, with a national reputation as a thought leader in post-secondary student experience, especially in relation to employability • Experience leading employability activities within a university context, with proven ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders in the tertiary sector • Experience and demonstrated success in implementing strategic plans, developing high quality programs and services in WIL, careers and/or employability, and monitoring the impact of programs and tracking targets • Outstanding interpersonal skills, and as a natural leader with you will be able to manage and support a large team, and connect with and network effectively with internal and external key partners A full list of selection criteria is available within the position description.
